Is Your Diet Acidic or Basic

The American diet is usually an acidic one. This comes from eating a predominence of protein sources (even the lean ones), dairy products (especially cheeses), and grains (even the unprocessed ones). These acid producing foods overwhelm the basic foods we take in and create some serious health problems.

When foods enter our body they are presented to the kidneys as either an acid or a base compound. A food's acid or base status outside the body is not necessarily the same as inside. For example, an orange which is acidic on the outside is actually basic inside the body. This is true of most fruits and vegetables.

When you eat a meal, the sum total of all acidic and basic compounds gets combined into what is called an acid/base load. If a particular days diet provided more acid containing foods it would carry an acid load. if your diet provided more basic compounds it would carry a much healthier base load.

Carrying a net acid load does not provide a healthy physical environment. The average American diet produces a state of low grade chronic acidosis which can cause the following health problems:

* Negative nitrogen balance (high amount of nitrogen in the urine). Muscle is actually broken down, lost, and amino acids are excreted in the urine.

* Hypercalciuria (high calcium concentration in the urine). Calcium is excreted from bone, bone is lost, and calcium is excreted in the urine.

* Mild hypothyroidism. This may result in a slowing of your metabolic rate as well as other negative effects on your overall physical functioning.

*Growth hormone resistance. Growth hormone has several positive functions including increasing fat loss, lean muscle mass and metabolic rate. It helps keeps the body in a more youthful state. Metabolic acidosis can slow the rate of growth hormone secretion.

*Hypercortisolemia. Cortisone is a hormone that controls the secretion of many other hormones. Increasing cortisone levels results in increased stress levels, weight gain and abnormal hormone profiles.

How did our modern society get so off track? When you compare our diets with our ancesters it's clear they ate a diet rich in basic foodstuffs. They ate more fresh fruits and vegetables (which are basic) and less grain and protein sources.

Here are some ways to make your diet less acidic:

* Add more fruits and vegetables

* If you know you are going to eat a big acid producing meal and don't want to add more basic foods, add a small amount of glutamine. Glutamine is an amino acid which can neutralize acid.

* Instead of glutamine you could add some sodium bicarbonate (baking soda). If you can't take the taste, Alka Seltzer is the same thing.

* Adding sodium (salt) to foods can increase the base potential and reduce acidity. This would not be recommended if you have high blood pressure.

The American diet is an unhealthy acidic one. The best way to neutralize the acid is to reduce the amount of grains, high protein sources and dairy products. Then add some fresh fruits and vegetables. Employing these simple strategies may help you avoid chronic low grade acidosis and the associated muscle wasting, altered hormonal profiles and bone loss that go with it.

Getting Older Does Not Mean Getting Slower

Many benefits are available to those who reach the golden years of their life: wisdom, a relaxed style of life, a lifetime of memories and in some states, free bus passes. Of course, these advantages are balanced by the fact that as part of the aging(http://www.mitamins.com/disease/Aging.html) process, parts of the body may stop functioning as they once used to. A sobering thought, but you can take solace in the knowledge that people are leading a fuller life than ever before. This has been achieved, in part, through the advances in our knowledge of nutrition and the aging process.

Nutrition is a Bigger Concern in the Elderly

Good nutrition is general knowledge today but it may be increasingly difficult for people to absorb all the nutrients they require as they get older. Supplementing certain vitamins in the form of an anti aging supplement becomes a necessity. Loss of appetite can also exacerbate this deficiency, and may be caused by lowered physical activity and the side effects of medication. The figures show a grim reality - nearly 50% of Americans aged 65 and over are on more than three prescription drugs. Also, over time, the gastro-intestinal tract, kidneys and liver are less efficient and can not process the nutrients that the body normally gains through eating.

Easy Steps to Prevent Early Aging

Most of the ailments that we associate with aging are all preventable to a certain degree without recourse to fantasy. A calculated course of nutritional supplementation can help people look younger, live longer, and most importantly, live better.

The anti aging supplement outlined below was created in conjunction with both medical and nutritional consultants. It is focused on controlling free radical damage with a combination of antioxidants and overall nutritional support. Some traditional and modern constituents have been included for their protective and enhancing properties.

Vitamin B Complex - very important constituent of this anti-aging supplement, it is vital for the brain and can help against Alzheimer’s. Important in energy use and creation.

Spirulina - natural source for vital nutrients, also good for progressive mental diseases.

Green Tea - a important player in an anti aging supplement, it is a potent antioxidant, detoxifier, and research is ongoing into its benefits against a variety of cancers

Flaxseed - required for healthy cell function and replication and a great source of omega 3 oils which help in heart disease(http://www.mitamins.com/disease/Heart-Disease.html) and may assist aging skin

Garlic - benefits the immune and cardiovascular system, regular prescription against hardening of the arteries.

Siberian Ginseng - helps the body adapt to mental and physical stress(http://www.mitamins.com/disease/Stress.html), supports the immune functions.

Ginkgo Biloba - antioxidant properties and is used for circulation and memory problems.

Cordyceps - shown to be effective against fatigue and premature aging. Alpha-Lipoic Acid, Ester C, and Vitamin E are powerful antioxidants and they work synergistically in this anti aging supplement to protect cell membrane from free radical damage.

CoQ10 - strong antioxidant and can also aid cardiovascular function, protecting against heart disease and heart attacks.

Reishi Mushroom Extract - boosts the immune function, can help the body absorb other nutrients.

Ashwagandha - Indian ginseng, a potent tonic for the body.

Asian Ginseng - anti-aging traditional medicine, considered to have anti-cancer(http://www.mitamins.com/disease/Cancer.html) effects.

Ginger - digestive aid and it is also beneficial for blood clots and anti-inflammation.

Milk Thistle Extract - promotes liver health.

The ingredients in this anti aging supplement, alongside a fitness regimen and moderation in alcohol and quitting smoking can help you achieve huge benefits and contribute to healthy aging. It is worth noting that you should check with your physician first before undergoing any fitness, nutrition or lifestyle change. You should also check to find out if any of the ingredients interact with your prescription drugs so tell your doctor and pharmacist what you are taking. Unfortunately, there is not a high level of understanding in the medical or pharmaceutical world into herbs and nutraceuticals although some research has been conducted into vitamins and the popular herbs.

A dietician may have better knowledge than your doctor but there are also a number of sources of information concerning prescription drug-dietary supplement interactions on the internet and a free drugs/vitamins interaction checker is available at Mitamins(http://www.mitamins.com).

The Merck Manual is a comprehensive resource of up to date medical information and has some good primers on interactions as well as in depth analysis.

The National Institute of Health’s Office of Dietary Supplements has a number of good fact sheets on different supplements.

Green Drinks A Great Way to Get Your Greens

Although Green Drink mixes have had a small group of fans up until this point do to their bad taste, there are now Green Drink mixes available with great flavors that are also plentiful in nutrients. Green Drink mixes have recently become very popular because of the large part of the vitamins and minerals that they provide with ease and convenience. Even a person who is extremely devoted to getting the recommended 5 to 9 servings of fruits and vegetables can find it hard some days. According to the National Cancer Institute, 87% of US families don’t get the daily fruits and vegetables needed to stay healthy.

As far as fiber is concerned, most Americans only eat 15 grams of fiber per day, which is less than half of the 35 grams that health and nutrition experts recommended in order to prevent heart disease, diabetes, and cancer. In one single serving, most green drink mixes contain 6 grams of fiber. The best green drink mixes are made up of inulin and oligofructose (OF), which are two soluble fibers that come from chicory root and are packed with nutritional goodness. While in the body, this type of fibers increase the numbers of friendly bacteria by providing the necessary nutrients needed so the friendly bacteria can multiply. Fiber also rids the intestinal walls of unwanted waste and toxins. Both inulin and oligofructose improve the digestibility of calcium and can increasing bone production and slow the rate of bone breakdown.

Although we cannot fully digest grasses because we can’t digest the compounds, that grasses and other plants use to maintain their structure (fibers), green drink mixes contain grasses because they are extremely rich in antioxidants. These antioxidants hunt free radicals. Damage from these free radicals is the number one cause of aging and also may lead to heart disease and cancer. Green drink mixes that contain barley grass provide about 2 servings of green vegetables just from the single ingredient. Barley grass, a nutrient-dense substance, contains many antioxidants that help fight caner and boost the immunity. For example, radish sprouts, which contain vitamins A and C, folate, calcium, and potassium, have superior antioxidant action and are a common ingredient in green drink mixes.

Chlorophyll for example, triggers biochemical reactions in nearly all living organisms and is also important along with the antioxidants, vitamins, minerals, and fiber found in a good green drink mix product. The chlorophyll molecule contains magnesium, which is vital for muscle contraction, the conduction of nerves, and maintaining heart and blood pressure. Because nearly 70-80% of American adults don’t get an adequate amount of green vegetables, they also aren’t getting enough magnesium in their diet. Most green drink mix products also contain wheat grass, which is full of valuable nutrients such as beta-carotene, riboflavin, folic acid, tyrosine, aspartic acid and glutamic acid. A good green drink mix product should also contain vegetables, leafy greens, and other nutrients, such as blue green algae.

Even though Green Drinks are valuable to everyone, people with leaky gut syndrome, autoimmune disease, cancer, heart disease, and osteoporosis benefit the most from green drink mixes in their daily diet. Because the vitamins and minerals in green drink mixes can be easily metabolized, people with leaky gut syndrome are able to get their needed vitamins and minerals back into their system in a soothing, natural way. High quality green drink mixes also contain vegetables rich in carotenoids, which show great results for immunomodulating effects in people with autoimmune disease. Green drink mixes contain many whole foods such as cabbage, inulin, oligofructose, radish, tomato, and kelp, which feed the body and help fight cancer. Green tea, broccoli, cabbage and carrots, which are found in a high quality powdered green drink mix, have great cardio protective effects. The broccoli and cabbage combination is able to reduce LDL cholesterol by 8.5% after only 9 weeks of use. Beta-carotene, which is found in carrots, also decreases cholesterol levels in the liver by up to 44%. Diets rich in vegetables, which contain calcium, magnesium, and potassium, helps to keep bones strong and prevent osteoporosis. When choosing a green drink mix product, make sure that it is one that has a good amount of fiber to help the bone-building minerals be absorbed into the system.

Along with the antioxidants found in barley grass and radish sprouts, there are many nutrients that are found in green drink mixes that provide significant health benefits. For instance, lycopene, which is a plant-based antioxidant compound that may protect against cancer and heart disease, is also more powerful than beta-carotene, the best-known carotenoid. With more than 70 studies examining the link between lycopene and cancer, strong evidence suggests that lycopene can protect against prostate, lung, and stomach cancers, and perhaps cancers of the cervix, colon, rectum, esophagus, mouth, and pancreas. Lycopene may also fight heart disease and prevent congestive heart failure.

Because green drink mixes contain alkalinizing foods, they can help balance out the increased intake of processed foods, which has led to an imbalance of acid in the body’s system. For instance, although lemons and grapefruits are considered acidic, their action in the body actually makes them an alkalinizing food. These alkalinizing foods also support bone health because they contain potassium and magnesium, which are two minerals that are very sparse in the body because they are depleted after ingesting a large amount of acid-producing food. In fact, potassium and magnesium from whole foods can improve bone mineral density for many older individuals.

Although some green drink mixes taste worse than plain old vegetables, there are high quality green drink mixes with a natural, fruit, or mint flavors. These added flavors can turn the most ardent veggie avoider into an instant fan. Plus the benefits of drinking green drink mixes are the almost instant intake of chlorophyll, magnesium, antioxidants, plant enzymes, and fiber. When the person taking the Green Drink mix realizes that they are combing good taste with an instant intake of the above nutrients, the value and convenience of the green drink mix becomes extremely obvious. These green drink mixes can provide a great-tasting, ultra-pure, whole-food way to get the essential nutrients that most Americans are lacking. In turn, these nutrients can help prevent cancer, heart disease, and diabetes, while enhancing energy, supporting digestion, and boosting your immune system. Green drink mixes and other great supplements can be found at your local health food store or internet Health food store.

Enjoy The Rainbow The Color Wheel Of Fruits And Vegetables

The majority of people know that eating five servings of fruits and vegetables a day is very important. Also, by eating fruits and vegetables of a variety of different colors, one can get the best all-around health benefits. Each different color fruit and vegetables contains unique health components that are essential to our health. Fruits and vegetables are very important to our health because they are whole foods, created by nature, that are rich in a large amount of nutrients. The processed foods that we so commonly eat, can never compare to the health benefits provided by strawberries or broccoli, which have fiber, vitamins, and enzymes built right in. The phrase “eating a rainbow” of fruits and vegetables is a simple way of remembering to get as much color variety in your diet as possible, so that you can maximize your intake of a broad range of nutrients. The colors of fruits and vegetables are a small clue as to what vitamins and nutrients are included. By getting a variety of different colored fruits and vegetables, you are guaranteed a diverse amount of essential vitamins and minerals.

When eating red fruits and vegetables including tomatoes, berries, peppers, and radishes, you take in nutrients such as lycopene, ellagic acid, Quercetin, and Hesperidin, to name a few. These nutrients reduce the risk of prostate cancer, lower blood pressure, reduce tumor growth and LDL cholesterol levels, scavenge harmful free-radicals, and support join tissue in arthritis cases. Carrots, Yams, Squash, Papayas, and other orange and yellow fruits and vegetables contain beta-carotene, zeaxanthin, flavonoids, lycopene, potassium, and vitamin C. These nutrients reduce age-related macula degeneration and the risk of prostate cancer, lower LDL cholesterol and blood pressure, promote collagen formation and healthy joints, fight harmful free radicals, encourage alkaline balance, and work with magnesium and calcium to build healthy bones. White fruits and vegetables, including mushrooms, white tea, flaxseed, and pumpkin, contain nutrients such as beta-glucans, EGCG, SDG, and lignans that provide powerful immune boosting activity. These nutrients also activate natural killer B and T cells, reduce the risk of colon, breast, and prostate cancers, and balance hormone levels, reducing the risk of hormone-related cancers. Wheat grass, barley grass, oat grass, kale, spinach, cabbage, alfalfa sprouts, mustard greens, and collard greens are all examples of green vegetables that contain chlorophyll, fiber, lutein, zeaxanthin, calcium, folate, vitamin C, calcium, and Beta-carotene. The nutrients found in these vegetables reduce cancer risks, lower blood pressure and LDL cholesterol levels, normalize digestion time, support retinal health and vision, fight harmful free-radicals, and boost immune system activity. Blue and purple fruits and vegetables such as blueberries, pomegranates, grapes, elderberries, eggplant, and prunes contain nutrients which include lutein, zeaxanthin, resveratrol, vitamin C, fiber, flavonoids, ellagic acid, and quercetin. Similar to the previous nutrients, these nutrients support retinal health, lower LDL cholesterol, boost immune system activity, support healthy digestion, improve calcium and other mineral absorption, fight inflammation, reduce tumor growth, act as an anticarcinogens in the digestive tract, and limit the activity of cancer cells.

These nutrients that are found in the above-listed fruits and vegetables can have a significant impact on our health. Quercetin, which is found in apples, onions and other citrus fruits, not only prevents LDL cholesterol oxidation, but also helps the body cope with allergens and other lung and breathing problems. Ellagic acid, which is mainly found in raspberries, strawberries, pomegranates, and walnuts, has been proven in many clinical studies to act as an antioxidant and anticarcinogens in the gastrointestinal tract. This nutrient also has been proven to have an anti-proliferative effect on cancer cells, because it decreases their ATP production. The best-known of the carotenoids, beta-carotene, is converted into vitamin A upon entering the liver. Although being known for its positive effects on eyesight, it has also been proven to decrease cholesterol levels in the liver. Clinical studies have proven that lycopene, mainly found in tomatoes, may decrease the risk of prostate cancer, as well as protect against heart disease. Lutein, which is found in blueberries and members of the squash family, is important for healthy eyes. However, it does support your heart too, helping to prevent against coronary artery disease.

Along with the above stated nutrients, there are even more nutrients found in fruits and vegetables that provide a great deal of support to our body. Almost everyone has heard of vitamin C, which keeps our immune system strong; speeds wound healing, and promote strong muscles and joints. This nutrient is scattered throughout the spectrum of fruits, but commonly associated with oranges and other citrus fruits. Potassium, which is the nutrient most Americans are deficient in, does great things for our hearts, and lowers blood pressure. Another good food component many people don’t get enough of if fiber, found in fruits, vegetables, and whole grains. Flavonoids, which include anthocyanins, flavones, isoflavones, proantocyanidins, quercetin and more, are found almost everywhere. They are responsible for the colors in the skins of fruits and vegetables and help to stop the growth of tumor cells and potent antioxidants. They also can reduce inflammation. Beta-glucan, found in mushrooms, stabilizes and balances the body’s immune system by supporting white blood cells. EGCG is found in tea and has been shown to reduce the risk of colon and breast cancer. It boosts the immune system and encourages T-cell formation, which defends our body against sickness and disease. Lastly, bioflavonoids, which are found in citrus fruits, are considered a companion to vitamin C because they extend the value of it in the body. These nutrients have the capabilities to lower cholesterol levels and support joint collagen in arthritis cases.

The number one excuse for not eating the required five servings of fruits and vegetables each day is they are too expensive. However, as compared to the amount of money spent on prepackaged, processed, and fast foods, most fruits and vegetables (with the exception of those that are not in season) are not all that expensive. Because frozen fruits and vegetables retain the majority of their nutritional value, they can be an excellent alternative when certain foods are out of season. Someone who is not able to eat five servings of fruits and vegetables each day can also drink fruit and vegetable drinks in their place. Although this shouldn’t become a habit, fruit and vegetable drink mixes can be an excellent substitute when you’re rushed or traveling. The need for fruits and vegetables in our diet is growing rapidly with the type 2 diabetes, heart disease, and high cholesterol, hypertension that result from the “Typical American Diet” of fatty meats, processed sugars, and refined grains. Great fruit drink Mixes and vegetable mixes can be found at your local health food store or internet health food store.

The New Food Pyramid

After much debate, our government has revised the food pyramid. There were definite nutritional flaws in the old one and, unfortunately, the revised pyramid isn't much better.

Like the previous version, they have again put grains at the base. To make matters worse, they suggest that fifty percent of these grains should come from breads, pastas and breakfast cereals.

The new version mentions nothing about about the dangers of sugar. Even the so-called "healthy cereals" have about 38% sugar! They also fail to mention the dangers of drinking sodas and other high sugar drinks. Sodas cause your blood sugar to rise instantly, creating an undesirable insulin response.

The new food pyramid, just like the old one, will likely make you gain weight and even increase your chance of incurring a chronic disease. Part of the problem lies in their placement of the 50% carbohydrates at the base of the pyramid. They simply don't provide enough information about what is or is not a healthy carbohydrate.

Further, the information is geared for the healthy adult. If you suffer from a degenerative illness such as heart disease, cancer or diabetes the food pyramid is not for you.

The basis for creating an appropriate nutrition plan should involve rebalancing the natural proportions of the three macronutrients: protein, carbohydrates and fats. Here's an equation to remember:

HIGHER PROTEIN + LOWER CARBOHYDRATES + HEALTHY FATS + REGULAR EXERCISE = OPTIMAL HEALTH AND WEIGHT LOSS

The above formula will keep you healthier and at a desirable weight.

When choosing carbohydrates, the majority should come from fruits and vegetables not grains. Fruits and vegetables are full of healthy phytonutrients plus they contain lot's of fiber. Choose whole grains only after you have eaten the fruits and vegetables. Your carbohydrate consumption will naturally lower this way. You will avoid exposing your system to changes in insulin which is a fat storage hormone and affects the immune system.

You should increase your protein and eat a small serving with every meal. It is suggested you eat every 2-3 hours to keep insulin levels normal. Choose fish, lean meats, eggs, low fat dairy, beans and nuts. Protein also helps keep you satiated.

Fats have a bad name in nutrition and they shouldn't. They are a part of all cellular processes. One type, saturated fat, is found in animal products. If you are eating meats you should get plenty of saturated fats. The other is polyunsaturated fats. Here is where your choices can make a difference. First avoid corn oil and all hydrogenated oils. Choose unprocessed vegetable fats like avocados, nuts and olive oil. Most important are the omega 3's which come from cold water fish like salmon. If you're not a fish eater get a fish oil supplement. The omega 3's help reduce heart disease, boost the immune system, regulate blood sugar, promote weight loss, relieve depression and more.

AS you can see the new food pyramid hasn't changed much from the old one. Further, it is so general in it's layout, it leaves many questions unanswered.
If you want to get the most out of your nutritional plan you'll need to look further than the newest version of the food pyramid.

Copper Functions Benefits and Sources

Although only small amounts of the mineral copper are needed to stay healthy, copper still has an important role in many of the body's functions. Even a small copper deficiency can begin to cause health problems. When you take in the right amount of copper every day, your health will improve in a variety of ways.

Copper plays a vital role in bone health. Studies have shown that those who take in a good amount of copper experience less bone density loss, which decreases the occurrence of osteoporosis. Copper can also help regulate the levels of good and bad cholesterol in the body, which means it can improve and maintain the health of your heart. Copper is a component of melanin, which pigments the skin, hair, and eyes. Because of this, proper levels of copper can prevent and even reverse many discoloration problems in these areas. Copper also influences the production of collagen and helps keep the skin looking supple. Copper also has anti-inflammatory properties, which is extremely beneficial to those with arthritis and joint pain. Copper also aids in the absorption of iron, which helps to balance hemoglobin levels.

It is important to remember that copper is only required in very small amounts. Those who consume moderate amounts of seafood, beans, and leafy greens, and those who drink water that flows through copper pipes or those who use copper cookware probably do not require a copper supplement. Because the mineral zinc can inhibit copper absorption, most supplements containing zinc also contain a small dose of copper. In high doses, copper can actually be very toxic. For these reasons, most people do not need to take a copper supplement in addition to their daily diets and supplements. However, those who are working to improve the conditions of their heart, bone, or joint health will want to talk to their doctor to see if a copper supplement might be right for them.

What is Brain Fitness

Copyright (c) 2007 The Brain Code LLC

Have you heard the term Brain Fitness yet? If not, you probably will. There is an emerging industry on maintaining or even increasing brain function as we age. The industry is still in its infancy, and backed by emerging science pointing to methods we can use to stimulate our brains. If you picture a brain diagram, these programs can increase the connectivity between different brain parts.

The timing is perfect as well, since a large percentage of the population is increasing in age and the needs of the baby boomers are largely driving the economy. One thing baby boomers want is to keep themselves out of a mental funk. There are companies that are nicely establishing themselves in this market. For example, Sharp Brains and Posit Science have created some good product lines already.

There's more than meets the eye.

I want to offer an expanded definition of Brain Fitness. Although the term is not yet in the dictionary, one definition for the word fitness from Webster is "good health or physical condition, especially as the result of exercise and proper nutrition". I think this should apply to Brain Fitness as well.

The Brain is a very unique organ because it is the only organ that is both physical and mental. The mental component of the brain, the mind, is the target of the current Brain Fitness industry. Programs that increase brain function and brain activity will stimulate new connections and new circuits and help keep the brain vibrant.

But the ability of these new circuits and connections to form also depends on the physical health of the brain, which plays by many of the same rules as the heart, lungs, liver, spleen, kidney's, etc. The physical health of the brain is dependent upon quality nutrition, physical activity and adequate sleep just like the rest of the body.

We need Mental and Physical Health

I have previously addressed these factors as well as the factors that contribute to mental improvements. Think of it this way. If you put one of the top racecar drivers in the world, say, Dale Earnhardt, Jr., into an old Ford Pinto and threw him into a race, could he compete? No. But put him into his high performance #8 car and he'll rip up the track.

The driver, in this case, is like your mind. The skills, the knowledge and the speed of decision-making are what Brain Fitness products will improve. The car is like the physical brain. If you don't have a high performance machine then the most skilled driver will not stand a chance.

This is not a perfect analogy because Brain Fitness programs do help create new connections that enhance the physical brain. But you also need proper nutrition to supply the best raw ingredients, physical activity to improve the delivery systems for those ingredients and adequate sleep to help keep those systems in tune.

In order to maintain healthy brains through our elder years we must focus on both of these approaches. But don't make the mistake of thinking that this is only for the baby boomer generation. What we do as kids and young adults all contributes to how efficiently our mental machines will work throughout our lives.

Herbal medicine for cold and flu information

The common cold or flu is one of medicine's greatest mysteries. While there are plenty of pharmaceutical products offered to help ease the symptoms of these illnesses, our local drug stores still offer us no opportunities to rid ourselves of the ailment itself. The pharmaceutical market offers such products as Vicks and Theraflu, but these products are only designed to make you feel better for the duration of your cold. While you may lose the coughing or running nose symptoms, there is still a sickness tugging at your body.

Herbal medicines for cold and flu ailments do not directly attack the viruses. They exist to help boost your immune system since only your own body can help you fight off these problems. Your immune system is the key to fending off viruses, and keeping it in working order can be key to keeping yourself healthy and well.

In traditional Chinese medicine, astragalus root is often used to help the immune system kick out the invaders. A renowned immune system enhancer, this root is also a building tonic. Mainly used for long-term disease prevention, astragalus root also helps in alleviating colds. Another Chinese remedy for the cold is a combination of herbs. Honeysuckle flower, forsythia fruit, platycodon root, peppermint, bamboo leaf, licorice root, schizonepeta, burdock root, and black soybean are used together in a substance referred to as "Yin Chao". This combination fights off the symptoms of the cold while providing boosted immune system defense.

Elder flower and gentian root are also a classic herbal medicine for cold problems. In a university study, the effects of these herbs were measured against the effects of a leading antibiotic towards helping a cold. The herbs provided faster response, greater effects, and less side effects than their pharmaceutical opponent.

Clearly, using herbal medicine for cold and flu problems can be a great way to clear up your sickness. As an alternative to the modern medicine offered in drug stores today, these substances usually have a greater effect on the problem while resulting in less side effects.

Anti Aging Nutritional Products

Anti aging nutritional products are based on the knowledge that one of the basic foundation blocks of health and healthy aging is good nutrition. Hardly a day goes by that we don't hear news telling us that a poor diet can lead to overweight, heart disease, diabetes, cancer, or any of a long list of other ailments. The way to good health, we are told, is to eat well and get lots of exercise. Eating well means getting lots of whole foods - fresh fruit and vegetables, whole grains, nuts - and limiting animal fat, hydrogenated fats, salt, sugar, and environmental pollutants. Eating well means a healthy body, a body that is resistant to the damage and deterioration seen with age.

Paying such close attention to diet is a tall order for many people. Most of us are busy and preoccupied with other things: putting together three nutritious meals a day just isn't an option. That's where anti aging nutritional products come in for those of us who want to add an anti aging aspect to our healthy eating plan. Indeed, some of these products do add an extra boost to nutrition by combining a number of ingredients known to combat the aging process in one supplement.

Anti aging nutritional products often contain a high concentration of antioxidants. Antioxidants are substances that mop up "free radicals" in the body, molecules produced during normal body functions that can cause cell damage and consequent aging. Knowledge about the role of free radicals in aging and disease processes, and about the protective nature of antioxidants, has blossomed in recent years. The main source of antioxidants in a normal diet has also been identified - fruits and vegetables and other plant products. Blueberries contain high levels of antioxidants. So does chocolate. A number of vitamins and minerals are antioxidants as well.

Of course, antioxidants are not the only things that anti aging nutritional products contain. As we age, our diets tend to become deficient in certain other nutrients that are important to good health, like Vitamin D, calcium, and other minerals. Lots of fiber is important as well, to aid digestion. Anything that contributes to good health contributes to an anti aging plan - the two things go hand in hand. And don't forget to add regular exercise and activity to that anti aging plan - it's very important to stay active. Anti aging nutritional products are only one part of a healthy lifestyle.

At the moment it seems to be "whole grain" and "omega-3" and "fortified". The Reality: The actual content of the whole grain may be minimal.
3. Big wrappers
Looks like value for money yeah?
The Reality: How many times have you ripped open a food wrapper only to find you've paid for about 1/3 air.
4. Keep changing the product design
More colors, unique designs - whatever it takes to make you think that the same old food has suddenly become altogether different.
The Reality: Same food, different box.
5. Ticks and bullet point lists
Free from artificial flavors "check!" Free from preservatives "check!" Baked not Fried "check!".
The Reality: The 3 main ingredients in this particular item (a cracker) are refined white flour, vegetable fat, and sugar.
6. Bite-sized. Mini-sized. Snack-sized
Many popular food items also come in smaller versions. The Reality: You probably end up eating twice or three times as much of the mini-versions.
7. It's organic
Just because it’s organic doesn’t mean it is any better for your waistline. Example: organic baked beans - complete with added sugar and 456mg of sodium.
The Reality: 3,500 calories of organic food is still 3,500 calories.

You’re the consumer and ultimately you make the choice when it comes to the food you buy. Next time, make sure you know what you’re getting is the real thing. Diet-friendly options may not be so diet-friendly after all. Read labels!

Fiber Can Boost Your Healthy And Eliminate Constipation

While most of us know that eating plenty of fiber each day is good for our health, 90% of Americans eat less than 15 grams of fiber each day. Nutritionists recommend 30 grams of fiber each day and this can be difficult to get with out supplementation. Today we will look at how one can get the recommended 30 grams a day. (1) Fiber can benefit your health in several ways for example: help prevent cancer, lower bad cholesterol and raise good cholesterol, strengthen the heart, reduce the risk of diabetes, help with weight loss, boost the immune system, and encourage regular bowel movements with individuals experiencing constipation.

First let’s look at where dietary fiber comes from. Fiber is found in fruits and vegetables and is the part that can not be digested or absorbed. Fiber has zero calories and isn’t considered an essential nutrient even though it’s recognized as having health benefits. Fiber comes in two classes, insoluble fiber and soluble fiber. Insoluble fiber such as cellulose, hemicellulose, and lignin’s can not dissolve in water. Soluble fiber does dissolve in water. Each of these fibers exhibit different health benefits in the body.

Foods high in soluble fiber are oats, bran, beans, peas, rice bran, barley, citrus fruits, strawberries, and apples. Oat bran has the highest soluble fiber content of any grain, if you eat the whole oat grain it contains insoluble fiber as well. Foods high in insoluble fiber are whole wheat breads, cereals, and bran, rye, rice, barley, cabbage, beets, carrots, Brussels sprouts, turnips, and apple skins. (2)

You might be wondering how fiber can help fight cancer. Fiber when eaten expands in the stomach leaving little room for more food to be ingested. As your stomach fills up with fiber you will be less likely to ingest fatty foods, high fat diets have been linked to development of cancer in the body. Fiber also speeds up digestion through the stomach and small/large intestines. By limiting the amount of time foods lay in the digestive tract, the chemicals in foods that tend to cause cancer are less likely to be absorbed into the bloodstream. Fiber also absorbs hormones in the intestinal tract which is good news to woman fighting estrogenic cancers. As we age estrogen balance changes in the body, eating lots of fiber can balance out this estrogen imbalance. Fiber can bind with or soak up excess estrogen which can then be excreted from the body helping the body balance its self out. (3,4)

Fiber such as oatmeal can bind with cholesterol as it moves through the intestinal tract, once the cholesterol is bound up it can not be reabsorbed into the bloodstream and is eliminated from the body. The FDA has reported that cholesterol levels can drop from 1 percent to 2 percent with every gram of soluble fiber a person eats per day. (5) High fiber diets can also help the heart. One study suggested that men who had a diet high in fiber (35 grams per day) suffered 1/3 less heart attaches then the men who had 15 grams of fiber or less. The risk of dying from a heart attach decreased by 17 percent. (6)

Fiber is also good for diabetes. There are two types of diabetes, type I and type II. Fiber can benefit both types. Diabetes is characterized by glucose or sugar building up in the blood with nowhere to go. Every cell in the body uses sugar for energy, but with diabetes, once the sugar hits the bloodstream, there is no insulin to shuttle the sugar into the cells and the cells starve. High sugar levels can damage the eyes, kidneys, nerves and the cardiovascular system.

Type I diabetes also known as juvenile diabetes is where the body does not produce any insulin. When people with Type I diabetes eats soluble fiber, this fiber coats the lining of the stomach and slows the foods absorption reducing the need for large amounts of insulin. Fiber can actually help prevent Type II diabetes which is most common in over weight people. Fiber when taken with a meal can help reduce the consumption of foods high in fried fats. Fresh fruits and vegetables are high in soluble fiber and lower in calories than fried foods, these foods usually have more complex carbohydrates which release slower into the bloodstream. (7,8,9)

The number one growing problem in America is obesity. More than 50% of American children are over weight compared to just 30 years ago, less and less are active in sports and more children would rather play a video game or watch television. Fiber can help fight the battle of the bulge. When consuming soluble and insoluble fiber before each meal, the fiber can swell in the stomach and limit the amount of foods laced with calories like ice cream and potato chips.

Our immune system helps protect us from diseases and viruses. White blood cells are the first line of attack against foreign invaders and cancer cells. Studies have shown that high fiber diets can actually stimulate our white blood cells to work better and more effectively fight off disease. (10,11,4)

Fiber is very important for proper digestive tract health. When we eat foods with little or no fiber our intestinal tract becomes lazy and looses its normal shape forming pockets that can collect food and becomes stagnant. If these pockets form bacteria can grow and serious infections can arise which are detrimental to our health. Constipation can be cured with adequate fiber in the diet. Fiber helps keep stool soft and can also help with hemorrhoids. (12,13)

As you can see fiber can dramatically improve our health in many areas, but getting enough fiber can be a problem. Many people have found liquid fibers as nasty and unpleasant to take. Look for a chewable tablet or capsule supplementing this way is the easiest way for one to obtain their needed 25 to 30 grams of fiber each day. Look for tablets or capsules supplying 2 grams per serving and start out with one serving each day for 5 days then increase to two servings per day increasing every 5 days until you reach your desired level of fiber intake per day. Increasing your daily fiber can help prevent constipation, cancer, diabetes, obesity, and cardiovascular disease. All these and other great fiber supplements can be found at your favorite internet vitamin store.

Are Diet Sodas Really Healthier Than Regular Sweetened Sodas

While a diet soda doesn't contain sugar that's about the only health advantage it has over regular sodas. Diet sodas contain caffeine, acids that promote dental erosion and artificial sweeteners which have raised some serious health questions on their own.

Most surprising is that diet soda may not even assist with weight loss. Several recent studies have linked a higher chance of weight gain to diet soda drinking. Scientists feel the artificial sweeteners interfere with the ability to regulate calorie intake, thus making diet drinkers more likley to overeat.

Diet sodas also do not promote healthy bones. This usually is a result of drinking a soda instead of a high calcium dairy product thus reducing the overall calcium needed to build strong bones.

Clearly, it's a myth that diet sodas are healthy to drink just because they don't have sugar. Here's a few suggestions if you're a diet soda drinker:

* Reduce the amount of diet soda you drink and substitute more healthy drinks.

* Even better, switch to nature's healthiest drink of all: water.

Get wholesale sunglasses

In today’s competitive world everybody wants to look better and smarter than others so for that, they can get a total makeover for themselves. In this process sunglasses play a major role. At the moment, stylish and protective sunglasses are important fashion statements. If we go back a few years, earlier sunglasses were only used as fashion accessories but now they have become useful, by protecting our eyes from harmful UV rays. Many of the retailers have started purchasing bulk stocks of sunglasses from wholesalers. Some people know that wholesale sunglasses are less expensive than what is available in the retail market. Usually, wholesalers purchase an array of sunglasses of various brands and styles in bulk, and then they sell them to retailers. Basically, wholesalers act as middlemen between the actual shopkeepers and manufacturers who sell sunglasses. In short, a wholesaler’s basic role is to guide shopkeepers and retailers regarding brands and fashions prevailing in the market.

Wholesale sunglasses are available for all genders and age. Now days, most sunglasses are unisex so that anyone can wear them, whether they are male or female. You also get the chance to shop around, or see the latest trendy sunglasses worn by celebrities or models. But what should be kept in mind is that when purchasing wholesale sunglasses you should check the quality, not just the price. Always make sure that you purchase sunglasses with a quality perfect frame and lenses. Plastic lenses give maximum durability. Wholesalers stock products and sell them to retailers in large quantities, who then sell them to consumers. Retailers purchase products from wholesalers at discounts and sell them to consumers at a profit. Every company has their own fixed wholesalers. It is always cheaper to purchase sunglasses from wholesalers directly than from retailers. It makes a variation in the prices, as the retailer profit gets deducted. But for big name brands, buying from a wholesaler or a retailer doesn’t make much of a difference.

The yellow pages list the names of wholesalers in each area throughout the country. One can even find out their location through the Internet as well. But these wholesalers are cautious of selling sunglasses to consumers, as they are contractually bound to their retailers. Wholesalers won’t sell a single pair of sunglasses to a person if they realize that the buyer is a mere consumer who has come to save a few dollars. Some sunglasses wholesalers have a surplus of goods in their warehouses, but no retailers to sell them to. Such wholesalers invite retailers via the Internet. People with capitalist skills but no finance for investment accept such invitations and retail the excess sunglasses from the wholesalers. Buying sunglasses wholesale is not a bad idea and also we can save money. The buyer can be more assured of the quality of the product and discount in price since the middleman is cut out, the only catch is that a person must have a fairly good contact with some wholesalers. Picking up a dozen or so sunglasses from a wholesaler is also sensible, provided one manages to sell them off to friends and family to make the money back.

Cousin Jimmy is Losing His Hair

Let's be honest. This whole idea of having a full head of hair, that somehow bald is bad, is fueled largely by vanity. There are simple, low-cost, dietary solutions to attack hair loss, but, you do know that it's a good idea to consult a healthcare professional before you make any drastic changes in your diet, right? You do not want to create or exacerbate health problems just for the sake of a full head of hair.

Let me begin with 3 cases examining cases that focus on attitudes about hair loss.

A friend of mine has spent $25,000.00 and many months having hair plugs inserted into his forehead area. I do not want to seem unkind, but, at first it looked like a forest missing some trees. Eventually, they made it fuller and fuller, but, to me, it still looks fake. I do not tell him that, of course.

I have another friend who is bald as a cue ball. He has a full wig. It looks pretty good on him actually. Without it he looks like Howie Mandel (Deal or No deal?). He has a little bit of real hair so he has to shave his head so the wig fits properly. It's made of human hair and cost him about $500.00.

I have a cousin who is thinning too. Jimmy is a real character. He says he doesn't have friends, he has aquaintances because friends are too much work! His answer to his thinning hair? Jimmy says" Who am I going to impress? I'm married!".

That's three ways of attacking the problem from the expensive to the comical. Well, here are some simple and cost effective alternatives to try before you go the money route taken by my first two friends. I'll deal with cousin Jimmy in a minute.

There a number of different specific hair vitamins and minerals that can play a major role in helping you have a healthy head of hair. If you are not getting sufficient hair vitamins, the deficiencies can lead to thinning hair or even total baldness in the most severe cases. The fact is that the state of your hair could be reflecting the overall condition of your body. Extra hair vitamins are likely to be needed if you are generally unwell or are undernourished. Your hair will show damage and may even stop growing.

Some of the most important hair vitamins that you may need to have healthy hair include B6, biotin, inositol and folic acid. A good balanced diet is the absolute best way to protect the health of your hair. Failing that, the second best way to ensure that you get enough of these essential hair vitamins is to take vitamin supplements. It is not just hair vitamins that are necessary for healthy hair. There are a number of minerals that are essential as well, including magnesium, sulphur, silica and zinc.

The most essential hair vitamin is Vitamin A and the best form of this is beta-carotene. This is because Vitamin A can be toxic if consumed in large quantities. Beta-carotene has no such problems and is converted easily by your body into vitamin A to promote healthy hair. Of course, vitamin A is not just a hair vitamin, it is also needed for a number of other functions including normal growth of bones, skin, nails and the protective sheath surrounding nerve fibres.

Protein is another essential hair vitamin. This is because hair itself is essentially protein. The amount of this hair vitamin that you consume in your diet can affect the hair directly. If a lot of protein is included in your diet then this hair vitamin will lead to improved hair growth and a far fuller head of hair. However, a person who has a diet that is lacking in this hair vitamin will suffer from thinning hair and slow hair growth.

There are many ways to get protein. Meat and eggs are good sources. You can also purchase protein supplements. Always be watchful of what you add to your body however. You do not want the cure to be worse than the disease!

Of course, it is not just hair vitamins and minerals that are needed to ensure that a person has healthy, strong hair. There are a number of researchers who have found that there are direct links between the overall health of a person and the condition of their hair.

If a person is under a lot of stress or suffers from a lack of sleep then their hair is also likely to suffer and it is likely that their diet will not provide enough hair vitamins to counter these effects. Smoking is also a factor as it restricts blood flow to hair follicles and causes hair to die and fall out.

Vitamin and mineral supplements for hair health just might be the solution to your weak and damaged hair. They are a relatively cheap alternative worth trying before you have that forest planted on your head.

As for my cousin Jimmy, I wonder if he will still be cracking jokes when most of his hair falls out?

Yours for Success in Life!
Jim DeSantis

Nutritional Needs for Goat

Efficient use of nutrients for goat depends on a sufficient supply of energy, which is of supreme importance in decisive the productivity of goats. Energy lack delays kid growth, delays teens, decrease fertility, and depresses milk production as well. With continued lack the animals show a simultaneous reduction in confrontation to infectious diseases and parasites. The difficulty might be further complex as well by deficiencies
of protein, minerals, and other vitamins.

Energy limitations might really result from insufficient feed intake or from the low class of the diet. Low energy eating that result from either feed constraint or poor diet component digestibility prevents goats from meeting their needs and from attains their genetic possible. High water content of forages might further become a limiting factor.

Energy supplies are affected by age, body size, development, pregnancy, and other lactation that have been treated as divide items in presenting requirements. Energy requirements are as well affected by the environment, hair growth, muscular activity, and even with having relationships with other nutrients in the way of diet which, for best results, requires to be supplied in sufficient amounts. Temperature, humidity, sunshine, and other
wind velocity might augment or reduce energy requirements depending upon the region. Stress of any kind might boost up energy requirements.

Shearing mohair from Angora goats and pashmina from Cashmere goats reduces insulation and that in turn results in increased energy requirements, particularly during cold weather. Goats are actually more active and travel greater distances than the sheep, which boost up energy requirements. Maintenance supplies of goats on pasture, browse, and other range, particularly in mountainous and transhumance grazing, are significantly
greater than those of stable-fed animals.

High-quality roughages supply about 2 Mcal metabolically energy (ME) per kg dry matter (DM). Roughage-focuses mixed rations are at times necessary to augment the energy content of the diet to 2.5 or 3.0 Mcal ME/kg DM when feeding early weaned kids or high-producing on the dairy goats. The efficiency with which energy is exploited for weight gain, pregnancy, and little other lactation frequently increases with increasing levels of ME
attention in the diet.

Anadrol (Oxymetholone) Profiles by TerePharmacy

The primary medical uses of anabolic-androgenic steroids are to treat delayed puberty, some types of impotence and wasting of the body caused by HIV infection or other diseases. Anabolic steroids promote the growth of skeletal muscle and the development of male sexual characteristics but do also have some other effects. Anadrol 50 is the strongest and, at the same time, also the most effective oral steroid. Anadrol has an extremely high androgenic effect, which goes hand in hand with an extremely intense anabolic component - oxymetholone. The highly androgenic effect of Anadrol stimulates the regeneration of the body so that the often feared "over training" is unlikely to occur. A dosage sufficient for any athlete would be 0.5 - 0.8 mg. per pound of body weight/day. This corresponds to 1-4 tablets; i.e. 50-200 mg/day. Under no circumstances should an athlete take more than four tablets in any given day, preferrably never more than three.

When taking Anadrol for the first time the athelete should begin with an intake of only one 50 mg tablet. After one week the daily dosage can be increased to two tablets, one tablet each in the morning and evening, taken with meals. Higher dosages should not be taken for periods longer than two to three weeks. Any use of Anadrol should not exceed six weeks. After discontinuing Anadrol, it is important to continue steroid treatment with another compound since, otherwise, a drastic reduction of muscle mass and strength takes place. Anadrol is the most harmful oral steroid and its intake can cause many considerable side effects. Most users can expect certain pathological changes in their liver values after approximately one week. Those who discontinue the use of oxymetholone will usually show normal values within two months. Oxymetholone is the only anabolic/androgenic steroid, which is linked with liver cancer.

Common uses

Anadrol can give dramatic gains in strength and muscle mass in a very short time. Water retention is considerable and since the muscle cell draws a lot of water, the entire muscle system of most athletes will look smooth. Anadrol does not cause a qualitative muscle gain but rather a quantitative one. Anadrol "lubricates" the joints since water is stored there as well. On the one hand this is a factor in the enormous increase of strength and, on the other hand, it allows athletes with joint problems a painless workout. A strict diet, together with the simultaneous intake of Nolvadex-D and Proviron, can significantly reduce water retention. Anadrol increases the number of red blood cells, allowing the muscle to absorb more oxygen. The muscle thus has a higher endurance and performance level. Although Anadrol is not a steroid used in preparation for a competition, it does help more than any other steroid during dieting to maintain the muscle mass and to allow an intense workout.

Directions

Anadrol comes as a tablet containing 50 mg. oxymetholone, to take by mouth. A dosage sufficient for any athlete would be 50-200 mg/day. depending on weight and how advanced user of anabolic steroids the athlete is. An intake of more than three tablets in any given day is not advisable. The first time user of Anadrol should begin with an intake of only one 50 mg tablet. After a one week, the daily dosage can be increased to two tablets, one tablet each in the morning and evening, taken with meals. Athletes who are more advanced or weigh more than 220 pounds can increase the dosage to 150 mg/day in the third week. This dosage, however, should not be taken for periods longer than two to three weeks. The use of Anadrol should never exceed six weeks. After discontinuing the use of Anadrol, it is important to continue steroid treatment with another compound since, otherwise, a drastic reduction of muscle mass and strength takes place and the user. Athletes continue their treatment with injectable testosterone such as Sustanon 250 or Testosterone Enanthate for several weeks.

Precautions

Anadrol is the most harmful oral steroid and its intake can cause many considerable side effects. Most users can expect certain pathological changes in their liver values after approximately one week. An increase in liver values of both the enzymes GOT and GPT also called transaminases, often cannot be avoided, which are indications of hepatitis, i.e. a liver infection. Those who discontinue oxymetholone will usually show normal values within two months. Longer intake of Anadrol and/or higher doses can cause a yellow discoloration of fingernails, eyes, or skin. The liver enzyme gamma-GT also reacts sensitively to the oxymetholone, causing it to elevate. If high dosages of Anadrol are taken over a long period, there is an increased risk that the described liver changes could end up damaging the liver. During the intake of Anadrol 50, the liver values as well as the LDH/HBDH quotient, should always be checked by a competent physician. Oxymetholone is the only anabolic/androgenic steroids which has been linked with liver cancer. Anadrol is not recommended for women since it causes many and, in part, irreversible virilizing symptoms such as acne, clitorial hypertrophy, deep voice, increased hair growth on the legs, beard growth, missed periods, increased libido, and hair loss.

Possible side effects

Oxymetholone easily converts into estrogen which causes signs of feminization and the already mentioned water retention, which in turn requires the intake of antiestrogens. The increased water retention, in addition to the aesthetical problems, can be further detrimental since it may cause high blood pressure. In extreme cases the intake of an anti-hypertensive drug may be necessary. Oxymetholone does not convert to DHT. However, it is a potent androgen. Users who experience severe steroid acne caused by Anadrol can get this problem under control by using the prescription drug Accutane. Other possible side effects may include headaches, nausea, vomiting, stomach aches, lack of appetite, insomnia, and diarrhea. The athlete can expect a feeling of "general indisposition" with the in-take of Anadrol which is completely in contrast to Dianabol which conveys a "sense of well-being". The increased aggressiveness is caused by the resulting high level of androgen and occurs mostly when large quantities of testosterone are injected simultaneously with the use of Anadrol. The body's own production of testosterone is considerably reduced since Anadrol has an inhibiting effect on the hypothalamus, which in turn completely reduces or stops the release of GnRH (gonadotropin releasing hormone). For this reason the intake of testosterone-stimulating compounds such as HCG and Clomid is absolutely necessary to maintain the hormone production in the testes. If you notice other effects not listed above, contact your doctor.

Additional information

Keep Anadrol in a tightly closed container and out of reach of children. Store Anadrol at room temperature and away from excess heat and moisture (not in the bathroom).

Andriol (Ttestosterone Undecanoate) Profiles by TerePharmacy

Substance: testosterone undecanoate

Trade Names:
Andriol 40 mg caps.; Organon CH, NL, PL, G, A, PT HU, Thailand; Ravasin
Androxon 40 mg caps.; Organon NO, Brazil
Panteston 40 mg caps.; Organon FI, FR
Restandol 40 mg caps.; Organon DK, GB, GR
Undestor 40 mg caps.; Organon B, 5, BG, CZ
Virigen 40 mg caps.; Organon TK

Andriol is a revolutionary steroid because, besides methyltestosterone, it is the only effective oral testosterone compound. Testosterone itself, if taken orally, is ineffective since it is reabsorbed through the portal vein (1) and immediately deactivated by the liver. The substance testosterone undecanoate contained in Andriol, however, is reabsorbed from the intestine through the lymphatic system, thus bypassing the liver and becoming effective. The liver function is not affected by this. Andriol aromatizes only minimally, meaning that only a very small part of the substance can be converted into estrogen, since the dihydrotestosterone does not aromatize. The users of Andriol therefore do not experience feminization symptoms such as gynecomastia or increased body fat. Andriol's non-aromatizing quality consists of the fact that the body's own hormone production is only affected after a long-term administration of very high dosages. Andriol should be the perfect steroid; however, this is not the case.

The disadvantage of Andriol is that it only becomes effective if taken in high doses. Even if a dose of 200 mg of Andriol/day is taken, the testosterone level in the blood is still too low for a bodybuilder to gain strength and muscle growth. The capsules, therefore, are effective for only a few hours so that 6-7 capsules, that is 240- 280 mg (minimum), must be taken daily to achieve good results comparable to those of injectable compounds. This, however, puts the athlete in a dosage range which begins to influence the hormone production and the compound now more readily converts into estrogen. Such a dose can also manifest itself in a higher retention of sodium and water. This is one factor which competing athletes must consider.

Another disadvantage is Andriol's high price. A package with 60 capsules costs approximately $80 and the minimum daily dose of 6-7 capsules thus costs almost $8. For those athletes who would like to try Andriol 8 capsules (320 mg daily) should be taken. The capsules should be taken three times daily (approximately every 8 hours) after meals so that the substance can be properly reabsorbed. However, even this high dosage does not guarantee satisfactory results. Those of you who believe that you need even higher doses should then consider that it might be more sensible to switch to the injectable testosterone.

The Andriol/ Oxandrolone stack gives athletes who do not yet have much experience with steroids a fairly large strength increase and also often substantial muscle growth. Andriol is quickly eliminated by the body it should also be considered for use before competitions requiring doping tests.

Women should avoid Andriol since the androgenic component-common with testosterone-is also strongly developed in this compound. Andriol intake can occasionally lead to high blood pressure, retention of fluids, acne, sexual overstimulation, and, in women, the well-known virilization symptoms.

Andriol should be stored in a cool place (6 - 15 C), preferably in the refrigerator. Since the capsules are extremely sensitive to heat they can easily melt into an undefinable shape if left in direct sunlight, e.g. in a car.

Is Your Diet Giving You One Big Headache

Are you running for the medicine cabinet as soon as you feel the slight pang of a headache coming on? I think we all do. There is a way we can be more proactive and decrease the amount of headaches we get simply by looking at our diet.

Research shows that some headaches, primarily the severe migraine type, can be triggered by what we eat. Experts suggest keeping a headache diary. Look for patterns to see which foods or beverages consistently cause headaches. Once you've identified a potential trigger, cut it out of your diet and see if the result is fewer headaches.

Here's some common head-tension culprits to keep in mind:

Tyramine
Formed from the breakdown of protein as it ages, tyramine is found in red wine, overripe bananas, beer, ale, nuts, seeds, soy, chocolate, pickled foods, and some aged cheeses.
Caffeine
Over two cups of coffee a day means increased blood flow to the brain.
Alcohol
Alcohol can trigger a headache or cause dehydration and lead to a hangover headache.
MSG
The increased sodium intake MSG may result in a hangover-type or migraine headache.
Tannins
Usually associated with red wine, tannins are also found in apple juice, black-berries, coffee, tea, chocolate, and carob.
Nitrites
This food additive, found in processed meats such as hot dogs and lunch meat, can increase blood flow to the brain and cause a migraine.
Ice cream
This dessert and other very cold foods can irritate a nerve in the back of the throat and bring on "brain freeze," which can trigger a headache.

If the diary is too tedious for you, at least try to lower consumption on the above items and see if you don't notice a change in the number of headaches you experience. Always remember to drink lots of water throughout the day to fend off unwanted head tension.

2 Simple Steps to Effective Weight Loss

2 Simple Steps to Effective Weight Loss
Copyright 2005 Ryan Cote

It's agreed that if you raise the amount of calories you
burn and watch what you eat, both the food and the
portions, you'll eventually start losing weight. Don't make
it more complicated than this.

Step 1 is exercise. You have to. Do cardio and this doesn't mean you have to run. There are plenty of cardio exercises that will give you results and this even includes walking at a good pace. And add weight training to the mix because the muscle you'll build will help you burn more calories. Aim to workout 3-5 days per week.

Step 2 is watch what you eat. You have to. Nutrition is
very important and until you realize this, it's going to constantly be an uphill battle. If you feel guilty eating something, that's your intuition telling you not to eat it. Avoid the foods that you know you should avoid, like heavy creams and fried & fast food, and limit how much sugar you take in. Foods that you should eat more of, however, include olive oil, peanut butter, chicken, fish, greens, fruit, vegetables, oatmeal and nuts.

There are also supplements you can take like CLA, Green Tea extract and thermogenic products. Supplements aren't the magic solution but adding them to a program that consists of exercise and good nutrition can be very effective.

A leading health magazine I read also recommends:

1. Drink protein shakes throughout the day (yes, females
too) because it will help prevent overeating. Plus, protein
is important. Two shakes is good.
2. Get 7-9 hours of sleep to keep your body in top
condition.
3. Add whole grains to your diet, like oatmeal and brown
rice, because of the fiber they provide.

Lastly, you'll notice that once you start to lose weight,
your motivation will sky rocket. Take this motivation and
run with it! The same goes for your will power- as you
continue to watch what you eat, you'll start to notice that
the bad foods don't look so good anymore. You can do it!

Antioxidants Supplements and Its Benefits

Antioxidants are a class of nutrients that protect the body from damage caused by different factors, most importantly oxidative damage caused by substances called free radicals. Free radicals are known as "reactive oxygen species", or ROS. They are produced when your body uses oxygen for energy. Just as fire emits smoke as a by-product, ROS are emitted from the conversion of oxygen to energy in the human body, eventually causing oxidative damage to body systems. Free radicals are also created when the body is exposed to pollution, cigarette smoke, car exhaust and other harmful environmental toxins.

There are different types of antioxidants, and most work better when paired with other antioxidants. This is called synergism. Vitamins can be antioxidants, such as vitamins C and E. The tripeptide glutathione, loosely classified as an amino acid, acts as an antioxidant, along with other true amino acids such as methionine. The raw herbs and vegetables we consume contain natural antioxidants called bioflavonoids and carotenoids, which are effective antioxidants on their own, but are more effective when synergistically combined with other antioxidants. Together these nutrients protect your cells from electron robbery at the hands of larcenous free radicals, protecting the body from disease and slowing the inevitable signs of aging.

Antioxidants are important supplements for everyone, but especially for those who exercise on a regular basis. The rational is that exercise is a highly oxidative process and, as a consequence, produces free radicals from aerobic metabolism. Antioxidant compounds help alleviate this process.

Benefits
minimizes the damage from free radicals
 protects against cell damage
may assist with prevention of debilitating diseases

benefits of the Soya Bean

Soya is one of the oldest and most nutritious foods in the world. In the 11th century BC it was primarily consumed in Northern China, spreading to the west and the U.S.A. in the middle of the 18th century and only more recently to Europe. Soya is mainly used in industry and for animal feed despite the fact that it is the third most important crop world-wide today and less than 3% is consumed by humans.

Soya has many nutritional advantages as it contains protein, fibre and isoflavones which have positive effects on cholesterol, bone density, menstrual and menopausal symptoms as well as preventing certain cancers. It is thought to be a wonder food by the Chinese who believe it can cure kidney disease, water retention, common colds, anaemia and leg ulcers.

Research studies by Professor Anderson in 1995 resulted in healthy heart claims as Soya was found to reduce blood cholesterol levels in many of his studies. Soya isoflavones combined with soya protein enhance blood cholesterol reductions as well as having a positive effect on menopausal women by reducing the risk of hot flushes. Improved vascular function, reduction of blood pressure, antioxidant protection of LDL cholesterol and inhibition of platelet activation are other known cardiovascular effects of Soya and its constituent isoflavones.

The recommended daily amount of soya protein by the UK Joint Health Claims Initiative in 2002 is 25g as part of a low-fat diet to help reduce cholesterol level. In orser to achieve this RDA of Soya to promote a healthy heart and reduce cholesterol it is necessary to consume three portions of a Soya based food each day. This can be easily achieved by using Soya milk on cereal each morning, adding soya milk to tea and coffee and choosing a dessert made from soya milk eg. custard or fruit smoothies yoghurt etc.,

There are many Soya cookery books available as well as the many recipes containing soya beans and tofu which already exist in Chinese cooking books. If more people included Soya into their daily diet the risk of developing Heart disease would be reduced which would have a significant impact on the incidence of mortality caused by Coronory Heart Disease today.

Care and Feeding of your Brain

Like every other part of your body, you brain needs regular exercise to stay healthy. Experience can modify brain structure at every stage of life. Challenging activities can cause new brain cells to grow or make existing brain cells form new connections, which helps the brain to function better. "Choose something appealing and challenging".

Growth of Brain:

So the brain is boss, but it can't do it alone. It needs some nerves - actually a lot of them. And it needs the spinal cord, which is a long bundle of nerves inside your spinal column, the vertebrae that protect it. It's the spinal cord and nerves - known as the nervous system - that let messages flow back and forth between the brain and body.

* When you were born, your brain came with all the neurons it will ever have, but many of them were not connected to each other. When you learn things, the messages travel from one neuron to another, over and over. Eventually, the brain starts to create connections between the neurons, so things become easier and you can do them better and better.

* Chronic stress damages your immune system and makes your body less able to fight disease. It also releases hormones that can be beneficial in the short term but damage your brain if they are constantly present. So take a deep breath, relax, and find some permanent ways to simplify your life. You can further boost your immune system and your mental health by becoming good at something. "Older persons who pursue activities in which they experience a sense of control and mastery are healthier both physically and mentally than those who do not".

The Eight Pillars of Brain Health

* Safety

* Nutrition

* Exercise

* Mental Activity

* Sleep

* Stress

* Hormones

* Treatment of Existing Disease

Nourish your brain with a healthy diet

Like any high-performance machine, the brain needs top quality fuel:

* Your brain needs well-balanced, low cholesterol, low saturated diet.

* Timing is significant in nutrition. Studies have demonstrated the importance of a good breakfast.

* Protein and unsaturated fat is especially important for developing brains. Fish, a rich source of both, is sometimes called brain food.

* Your body converts long strings of amino acids in the protein you eat to individual amino acids that your brain converts to the specific proteins it needs.

* Your brain needs vitamins and minerals; they come from your diet.

* Research suggests anti-oxidant vitamins E and C protect the brain.

* Avoid excess food. Reducing calories can help slow age-related brain changes

* Enjoy caffeine and alcohol in moderation.

* As a general rule, good nutrition for the body is good nutrition for the brain.

Sports Nutrition

From the beginning of time, or should I say from the times of Ancient Greece, the physical appearance of the body was considered to reflect the condition of the soul. A beautiful body, with the right proportions and well developed muscles was the reflection of the ideal human being. Are we far off from those "ancient" beliefs or is it the same today?

Gyms today are not only the privilege of men but also a place visited by old aged people. It seems that sport is not meant only for the purpose of looking good, but also for feeling good. A ten minute exercise at the morning or a half hour walk at the evening would make you feel better about yourself already. For the lazy ones, I know I am there are solutions! Getting dressed to go outside can be stressful enough, not to mention the actual walk and sweat. Thoughts of jogging can tire you way before you actually stepped outside.

I am here to offer several solutions: first, you can just put your training outfit on (it can be anything you feel comfortable in) and rash through the door without ever thinking of the consequences that way it would be too late to go back and you would have to wander around a bit. For those who find it impossible to disconnect even for a few minutes, get yourself a stepper!

Yes, a stepper is a great device which doesn't take much place and is really easy to use. Once doing about an 80 steps, you can really feel that your legs had been working! Just pull in out from under the table, put on some music and step ahead! (Don't forget to stretch your legs before you begin, that would prevent muscle pain).

Shattering the Meat and Protein Myth

Today, the World Health Organization and many experts in the field of human nutrition tell us that human beings only need 4.5% protein in their diets for health and fitness, and overall well-being, and that plenty of protein can be sourced by plant foods alone.

After all, even oranges have 8% protein, Romaine lettuce 36% protein, and brown rice 8% protein.

The experts also tell us that animal protein is not superior to plant protein. In fact, animal protein is related to many chronic, debilitating diseases that end life prematurely. That is the animal protein alone in animal products. Add fat, cholesterol, hormones, and antibiotics to the mix and that makes meat of all kinds less than the ideal food for human nutrition.

The infamous "Four Food Groups" is without a doubt the fattest food lie of them all that we were raised to believe and most of us still believe to this day.

Our government endorsed the "Four Food Groups." Our teachers taught it. Remember in grade school those shiny, colorful posters and materials that displayed the "Four Food Groups?" Those materials were donated to the schools by the National Dairy Council.

Our doctors adamantly stood behind the "Four Food Groups."

Our mothers were tickled with the "Four Food Groups."

Why? Because that is exactly what they were already feeding their families. They could now go to bed at night feeling comforted that they were feeding their families, and had always had been feeding their families, according to recommendations by all those smart experts and by the accepted cultural standard.

How were we to know that all of us had been duped? The very foods that had been intricately woven into our culture and our habits and our beliefs, and had been the law of the land for decades and decades, were some of the very foods that sabotage our health and our lives.

It was Adolf Hitler who said, "If you tell a lie long enough, it will be believed as truth."

We have been told the tale of the infamous "Four Food Groups" for so long that we believe it as truth. And because we have grown up with these foods, because we are so emotionally attached to these foods, and because they are so woven into our meals and our traditions, the last thing we want to do is give them up.

It is time to throw away the infamous four with which we were raised and contributed and still contribute to the premature disability, diseases, and death that strike so many of us.

It is time to embrace the real four food groups that are critical to our health, fitness, and lifelong well-beingwhole fresh fruits, whole fresh vegetables, whole grains, and whole legumes.

By the way, remember those rat experiments close to 100 years ago, rats did grow faster when fed animal protein, but they also died quicker of chronic, degenerative diseases.

Healing the Skin from Within

The skin presents a particular problem for the environmental doctor because it is subject to influences from within the body and from the outside world. However, despite the complications of trying to link causation, the general principles of tackling skin problems are the same as for tackling many other health problems:

When trying to solve skin problems, one of the best places to start is with nutrition. Skin nutrition is especially important when it comes to micronutrient status. Skin, hair and nails are all made from the same material, i.e. keratin. So a problem in one department usually means
problems elsewhere. Slow growth of hair and nails, or poor quality, or white flecks in the nails would point to a micronutrient problem. Oftentimes it means your body has nutrient deficiencies, which can only be solved by adding more vitamins, minerals, and other vital nutrients into your daily consumption.

This can be done in several ways, the best of which are easy and convenient because that means that you will continue to do them and not have a reoccurring problem. So, one option is to be sure to purchase plenty of fresh fruits and vegetables. Fresh fruits and vegetables are
loaded with the important nutrients your body and skin need. However, if you buy them and don't use them, they will do you very little good.

Another option is to use a different source of these wonderful vitamins and minerals as well as other vital nutrients. This could mean supplementing them through pills, but that requires remembering to take them, and taking the right dosages etc. So probably the best option for skin nutrition and getting the nutrients needed is to get those nutrients in an easy and convenient form that will integrate well into your lifestyle. A great example of such a product would be Zija. It is a health beverage that is loaded with all sorts of vitamins, minerals, all eight
essential amino acids, etc. It comes in a food-safe lined aluminum can that is smaller than the typical beverage can, and fits easily into your purse or bag.

Zija is good for you because it is made from the Moringa oleifera plant, which is often referred to as the "Miracle Tree" because of its many healing and restorative properties. This plant is rich in nutrients that help the body function properly and help those who are sick, or anyone that needs a nutrient boost, which is everyone.

Zinc is especially important to allow skin to heal quickly, and can often eliminate skin problems such as eczema. Moringa is rich in zinc, and the zinc found in this plant and the juice Zija is more readily usable by the body than the zinc found in meat. All eczema patients should take nutritional supplements, such as Zija, and also essential fatty acids (which can be found readily in evening primrose oil, or is also found in Zija and the Moringa oleifera plant).

While getting these nutrients directly from the plant itself is a great idea, it is not available in all areas. Zija is all natural, and does not have all those added preservatives found in many health beverages. Rather it is made directly using the nutrient rich parts of the plant, and is formulated to retain the absorbability and bioavailablity you would get if you ate the plant directly. Thus, when you can't eat the plant itself, try the handy alternative Zija.

Eric Thorn, a successful businessman, highly recommends the Zija Moringa Beverage for skin nutrition and getting the nutrients needed in an easy form that will integrate well into your lifestyle. Visit http://www.zijapower.com to learn more.
